D2D glossary / How reps get paid

What is a spiff in sales?

Spiff: A spiff is a short-term bonus paid for hitting a specific target, such as a number of sales in a day or week, or for selling a particular product. It is paid on top of normal commission.

Spiffs are incentives a company or a manager uses to push a result right now: a cash bonus for the first sale of the day, a prize for the top rep of a blitz weekend, extra pay for each sale of a product the company wants to move.

Spiffs are real money but they are not your pay plan. They change week to week and can be withdrawn. Judge an offer by its base commission and its chargeback terms, and treat spiffs as extra.
