What is a takeover in alarm sales?

Takeover: A takeover is signing a homeowner who already has an alarm system to your company's monitoring, usually reusing or upgrading the equipment already in the home.

Takeovers are common because many homes already have a panel on the wall. The rep offers newer equipment or a better rate, and the new company programs or replaces the system.

They are also where the industry's worst complaints come from. Telling a homeowner that you are from their current alarm company, that it went out of business, or that you are there to "upgrade" their existing service when you represent a competitor is deceptive and has drawn action from regulators. The customer may also still owe their old provider. Say plainly which company you work for and that this is a new agreement.
