D2D glossary / Roofing terms
What is a supplement in a roofing insurance claim?
Supplement: A supplement is a request to the insurance company to add items or costs the adjuster's first estimate missed, such as code-required upgrades, extra layers or damaged components found during the job.
Adjusters write the first estimate from one inspection. Contractors often find more once they measure and tear off: missing line items, local code requirements, damaged decking. The contractor documents these with photos and submits a supplement, and the insurer approves or denies each item.
Supplements affect reps because many roofing commissions are a share of the job's final value or profit, and the supplement changes that total. Ask whether commission is calculated before or after supplements and when the final part is paid.
