Is it illegal to ignore a No Soliciting sign?
No Soliciting sign: Often, yes. Many city codes make it an offense for a salesperson to knock at a home that displays a No Soliciting sign. Where the code is silent, staying after being told to leave can still be trespassing.
The answer depends on the city. Some codes say plainly that a solicitor may not approach a home with a posted sign, and a rep who does can be cited and lose a permit. Other cities have no sign rule, and the sign is a request with no penalty of its own.
In practice the rule for reps is the same everywhere: skip the house. A knock on a posted door rarely becomes a sale and often becomes a complaint against you and your company.
