What is a rebuttal in door-to-door sales?

Rebuttal: A rebuttal is a prepared, respectful response to a common objection such as "I'm not interested" or "I need to think about it", meant to keep the conversation going for one more question.

Most objections at the door are reflexes, not decisions. A rebuttal acknowledges what the person said, then offers a short reason or a question that addresses the real concern. Reps learn rebuttals for the handful of objections they hear every day.

There is a line. Answering an objection once or twice is selling; refusing to leave after a clear no is not, and in many cities it is a violation. A homeowner who asks you to leave should be thanked and left alone.
