What is a dealer in door-to-door sales?

Sales dealer: A dealer, or sales organization, is a company that sells another company's product door to door under contract. The rep works for the dealer; a separate provider or installer delivers the service.

Much of door-to-door sales runs through dealers. An internet provider, alarm company, solar installer or energy supplier signs an agreement with a sales organization, which recruits, trains and pays the reps. A large dealer may contract smaller teams under it, sometimes called sub-dealers.

This matters when you take a job. Your contract, your pay and your chargebacks are with the dealer, not with the brand on your shirt. Each layer between you and the provider is paid from the same sale, so two dealers selling the same product can offer different commission.
